Dr Libor Spacek is a Lecturer in Computer Vision in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Essex. He obtained his M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence (with Distinction), followed by a PhD thesis entitled: `The Detection of Contours and their Visual Motion'.

In the 1980's Dr Spacek visited MIT for a period of research with Prof. JM Brady, who was also his PhD supervisor. In 2001, he worked on omnidirectional vision at the EC centre of excellence at the Czech Technical University in Prague (Centre for Machine Perception).

His research interests are centered on generally applicable computer vision methods: edge detection, texture analysis, occlusion analysis, object and face recognition, motion computation, visual navigation for autonomous vehicles and omnidirectional vision.

Dr Spacek has published over 30 scientific papers in these areas and has given research seminars around the world to many universities and companies. He has served as a member of the BMVC and ICPR committees and several other conference committees, as well as a referee for a number of computer vision journals. He has held EPSRC grants and has extensive experience supervising PhD students.

Specific  projects  under investigation include:

He currently has vacancies for supervising  PhD research  in some of these areas. Please see Computer Vision Research   for more details.
