Special Session on

Evolutionary Algorithms with Statistical & Machine Learning Techniques

2010 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence, 18-23/July, 2010, Barcelona.

Organisers:

 Prof. Qingfu Zhang

Prof. José Antonio Lozano

Dr. Aimin Zhou

Prof. Yew-Soon Ong

Motivation:

An evolutionary optimization algorithm can be viewed as a learning process-it learns properties of the problem in question and locate the optimal solution. Therefore, it is very natural to introduce statistical & machine learning techniques (SML) into evolutionary algorithms (EA). Much effort has been made along this line. Examples of EAs with SML include: estimation of distribution algorithms, ant colony optimization, cross entropy methods, evolutionary algorithms based on statistical surrogate models, to name a few. Combination of EAs and SML has been proven to be an efficient strategy for dealing with hard optimization problems. This special session aims at bringing researchers who are interested in this area together to review the current state-of-art, exchange the latest ideas and explore future directions.

Scope:

The major topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

o       Theoretical work of EAs with SML,

o       Experimental studies of EAs with SML,

o       EAs with SML for multiobjective optimization problems,

o       EAs with SML in dynamic environments,

o       EAs with SML for expensive black-box optimization,

o       Real-world/novel applications.
