When at sea, the bridge is manned by six trainees who carry out the duties of helmsman, two look-outs, a scribe and two messengers. During a voyage, everyone gets the chance to take a turn at each activity. To the left of the picture can be seen the entrance leading down to the chart room, where an Officer of the Watch is on duty.
