The iDorm2, a two-bedroomed apartment housed in the University's new Networks Centre building, was officially opened at 5.30pm on Tuesday 28th of June by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ivor Crewe, followed by demonstrations of current research into intelligent environments. VIP guests attending the ceremony included Emeritus Professor Tony Brooker, the founding professor of the Department of Computer Science, the Colchester Mayor and Mayoress Terry and Wilma Sutton, the Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council Tim Melville-Ross and his wife Mrs Camilla Melville-Ross, and the Vice-Chairman of the County Council Gerard McEwen and his wife Maggie.

Helped by Professor Vic Callaghan, the Vice-Chancellor, Ivor Crewe, marked the official opening of the iDorm2 by switching on its lights using a Personal Digital Assistant.
